FIBER OPTIC CABLE SPLICE ENCLOSURE

APPLICATION:
Fiber optic cable splice enclosures are designed to hold cable splice units and hold excess cable until such time that it is needed. Typically, they are located in central office vaults, on poles, and in splicing manholes.

The fiber optic cable can enter into the cable enclosure through any location about the perimeter per customer specifications. The unit is designed to loop up to 75 meters of excess cable. The splice unit is mounted at an angle so that the fiber optic cable remains within its curvature tolerances as it enters the splice unit.

CONSTRUCTION:
The fiber optic cable splice enclosures, manufactured from high-strength ABS plastic with a 3 mil acrylic Korad cap, will not corrode and are virtually indestructible. ABS plastic offers excellent mechanical toughness in I.Z.O.D. testing, a wide service temperature range (-40° to 180°F) for good dimensional stability, very good electrical insulating properties, and excellent chemical resistance, while the acrylic Korad cap adds U.V. protection.

The main body of the enclosure is molded in two halves, so that the front cover is completely removable. The front cover fastens securely to the mounted back half of the enclosure with four captive threaded nylon fasteners. The cable entrance locations in the splice enclosures are designed with two removable plates which lock into the cable inner-duct (both 1" and 1 ½" inner-duct), thus allowing for retrofitting into existing cable, replacement of older metal splice enclosures, and for new installations.

The enclosure has four ½" diameter holes provided in the back half for easy mounting, three movable brackets separating and looping excess cable, two water drain locations, and a removable mounting bracket for the splice unit.

The enclosures conform to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards for type 3R (rainproof and sleet-ice resistant) enclosures. Unlike metal enclosures, Formex enclosures are resistant to impact, salt water, black water, and methane gas.
